So this is the dress I made for my daughter's birthday. Now I'm on a mission to make myself a tea dress.
I bought some lovely charcoal grey fabric with a tiny yellow flower print. I think it's going to be good. Am about to start cutting the cloth. The scariest bit by far, I've discovered.
Other dresses I would like to make:
- Something lovely for my mum to say thanks to her for buying me my sewing machine. Probably a dark red button-up pencil dress.
- A fabulous halterneck for D, who rocks halterneck dresses (my favourite style of day dress) like no one else I know.
- A super stylish day dress for the office from little sis M - because she does sexy the business woman look so well. (And I mean that as a compliment.)
- A red polka dot fifties dress for A - in honour of our lost youth :-)
- A slightly sparkly, chiffony, floaty number for MrsL who I reckon is about ready for a post-baby glammed-up night out on the tiles with MrL.
- Something so cutting-edgely fashionable it hurts for SP (maybe a parachute dress?) who claims to have forgotten about being "chic" out in Thailand (but I know better . . . )
- A super-slinky, super-sexy black pencil dress for Joparrswood.
So many lovely ladies. So many lovely dresses . . . I'm determined to make them all in due course.
CBT may not have "cured" my morbid obsession with life's point (or lack of it) and it definitely hasn't stopped the Up-and-down-weeeeeee! swings of mood. But it's brought me to sewing dresses, a life long ambition - that definitely good enough for me at the moment.

Wow! S's dress is FABULOUS! I'm v. impressed. I still have my red polka dot 50s dress, you know. AND I can still get into it (smug, moi?)! But I'm afraid I do look like mutton dressed as lamb in it nowadays, so much prefer the idea of a charcoal tea dress. Make 2? A.xxx
Well, I am feeling very flattered - both to have made your list and that you think I am still cutting edge fashionable! (I write this in a pair of fisherman pants and an old M&S T.)
I am also very pleased that you have found something you like to do - and clearly have a talent for, as S's dress is looking distinctly shop-like, as opposed to "aaaaw, that's nice. Did you make it yourself?" :-)
p.s. I will be in London 10 - 13 August should you wish to take measurements...
My charcol grey tea dress is going AMAZINGLY well. It's almost too lovely. I need to win the lottery or something so I can just spend all day making dresses. It is my DESTINY.
SP - by hook or by crook I'll see you in London.
A - maybe a charcol grey fifties dress??
Yes, please (to a charcoal grey 50s dress)! And I should be London/Brighton way in August, so book me in for measurements too, please! A.xxx
A - you were already booked, my dear :-) x
